Healing Mandalas

(Published with the kind permission of Lee-Anne of the Temple of Balance)

What is a mandala? How do I create them? Can I draw what I want, are their rules to follow?

A mandala is Sanskrit for ‘circle’ or ‘completion’. It has a long history and is recognised for its representation of wholeness and its deep spiritual meaning.

The mandala is widely recognised as a meaningful reflection of its creator.

Mandalas are all around us, and can represent life as we know it. Look around you for mandalas in nature. Within the milky way galaxy is our solar system and with our solar system is Earth, each is a mandala that is part of a larger mandala.

Flowers, the rings on tree trunks, water under a telescope, the spiralling of a snail’s shell, all reflect a mandala pattern.

Wherever there is a centre, radiating outward and inward, there is wholeness – a mandala.

Mandalas are everywhere, they are structures of our cells, our world and our universe.

The nature of creating a mandala is therapeutic and symbolic.

What you create during your mandala making will reflect your inner self at the time you created it.

You should allow your instincts, imagination and feelings to inspire and guide you through the process of creating your mandala.

Whatever you are feeling at the time you created the mandala, will reflect through it in some way.

I like to start with a circle (I trace around something that is the right size), and then I work out the centre point with a ruler, and start creating. Sometimes I put words in mine, symbols, different colours and patterns. Just allowing it to unfold as I create.

I don’t feel that there are any ‘rules’ it is up to the individual to create what they feel in that moment.

Here is a copy of a mandala I created recently....

A couple of weeks after I drew it I understood more about what it reflected to me... it reflected my Divine Union Love, and how we are mirrors of each other.

Each person will see something different within someone’s mandala, and that reflects something for that person, according to their statement.

Grab some paper, something round to trace, some pencils, crayons, textas, chalk... use your imagination, and you are ready to begin.

Love and happy mandala creating,

Lee-Anne, Tasmania, Australia
